Greenhouse sticking to hiring plans amid tech industry unease, with aim to add 100 workers to its Irish office – Independent.ie

Greenhouse, the US recruitment software firm, plans to stay on track with its hiring plans in Dublin despite a “period of confusion” in the tech industry.

he New York-based company makes recruitment software and opened its European headquarters in Dublin in early 2020.

The company was hit by its own setbacks in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, laying off around 28pc of its staff across the company.

Since then, it began regrowing its workforce and late last year it committed to adding 100 jobs at its Dublin office. It currently has 110 employees in Dublin.

Chief marketing officer Carin Van Vuuren said it expects to exceed that target.

“Dublin specifically is our HQ base for growth into the rest of EMEA,” she said.

Van Vuuren said she plans to build out a larger marketing team in Dublin to serve the European market.

“I think the office has a fairly ambitious growth target over the next 12 months. For us, this is very much an area and a region that’s got massive growth potential.”

Greenhouse’s Dublin base houses marketing, sales, customer support and some engineering functions.

Van Vuuren said that there is some slowing down in the rate of tech companies hiring in the US and Europe amid the economic downturn. Several large tech firms have laid off employees or frozen hiring to rein in costs.

This has been felt in Dublin as recently as this week with Patreon, which is a Greenhouse customer, shutting down its Dublin office as part of cuts across the company.

“Some of the companies have done massive tech layoffs and heads are spinning. Are we in a recession or aren’t we?” Van Vuuren said.

“It’s very much a period of confusion, which is causing business leaders to just be more prudent and cautious. [There’s] a little bit of a slowdown in hiring. Let us wait and see.”

She added that employers on both sides of the Atlantic are still figuring out their approaches to remote and on-site working patterns for the long term.
